Stuffing the Ballot Box to Make Sure I Don't Get Voted Off

You know, I really kinda hate reality competition television shows. And I HAVE given them a chance (for those of you die-hards who can't get enough). Yes, the content is sometimes pretty good; but I really hate feeling bad for the contestants who get cut on each episode!!! Especially when they're so talented. Who are these judges (or live audiences or AMERICA) to say this contestant doesn't deserve to be here???

I even feel bad for the obviously-bad rejects they show during the first few shows of the season. C'mon now, that's just mean... broadcasting someone's complete and utter failure to be even semi-decent. Maybe they really didn't know they couldn't sing/dance/cook/model/look smart/dress themselves/jump up and down on one foot/find the needle in the haystack. And we just keep on watching... watching them fail... laughing at their failures, even. I hope those really-bad-contestants have really really really high self-esteem and don't care that a relatively large segment of the country just saw them fail miserably.

How many of these shows can we possibly have on the air these days? Seriously! How many can you count off the top of your head? There are at least fifteen or twenty. How can all of them have the numbers to stay on the air when good quality shows like The Class are being sent away?? Pretty soon there'll be nothing on BUT reality TV contests. Good, I say. Maybe then I can put the remote down and step away from the TiVo. There are already too many things in my everyday life that make me dumber.

SAVE SMART TV.
