The Excitement That Is Kona

Poor Kona is hurt again. Bless her heart... if there's an injury to be found, she can find it. This time, it's a dog bite on her head and neck. She picked a fight with a much bigger canine and will be paying the price tonight. I'm sure she'll be sporting the most awesome new hairstyle tomorrow morning (post-vet visit). Dr. Morgan seems to get a real kick out of shaving her to repair whatever damage there is; and I'm SURE he'll do the same tomorrow AM.

This injury occurred this evening around 8-ish. Can't be sure of the time, but it was still light outside and dinner was long finished. I can't think of anything that would be used to help me pinpoint the time either... usually there would be a phone call or e-mail sent or something like that (all my little techno gadgetry uses timestamps)... but there doesn't seem to be anything coming to mind. What was I even doing??? Actually, I was cataloging pictures... again. Or maybe that was just after I came downstairs from watching Top Chef (what? another reality game show? YES... and don't judge me... you may have other habits: myspace, xbox, chocolate... I have reality game shows... well, that and complaining about reality game shows). Anyway, Kona was really antsy to get outside. But it wasn't the I'm-gonna-kill-something antsy. It was truly more the I-really-really-really-have-to-go antsy. So, I didn't even think twice about letting them out. But as soon as that door was open, they hit the trail with their noses to the grindstone (perhaps that's a bit of a mixed metaphor... oh well, I'm not the master of metaphors, that's for sure). They went to the right part of the yard first, and then Kona caught site of what was bothering her nose... our neighbor's yellow lab... doing something (laying? walking around? sitting? otherwise resting? just passing through?) in our yard. She took off like a shot... with the little red shadow trailing behind. By the time I could get out there to see what was happening (I was hearing it without fail), the fight was nearly over. I saw Cooper at the yellow lab's tail and Kona at his head... perhaps in his mouth... not really sure what I saw at this point. I know now that she was, in fact, in his mouth at some point. But, from what I could tell, the yellow lab was trying to make his escape. He finally wrestled free, Cooper was barking normally & giving chase, and Kona gave this loud long yelp. Yes, it sounded like she'd been hurt; but she continued, like Cooper, to chase after the yellow lab and run crazy-dog around the yard sniffing and marking territory and sniffing some more. When I finally caught her, she didn't look to be hurt. Two hours (or so) later, Jon comes down with a trembling Kona in his arms asking me what in the heck happened?! She has two large gashes in her head... one on top, one in her neck. They're bad enough to make Dr. Jon woozy... well, that and the fact that he's extremely worried about her. Hopefully, the vet will provide wonderful, awesome service tomorrow... and hopefully, we all make it through the night in one piece.
